Reading at an early age sparked the love of books and the worlds within that a reader can access by learning and reading. My older sister, who is a teacher, greatly influenced this interest over the years. In elementary school, I developed my language skills quickly and moved to an advanced class in the sixth grade. Throughout high school, English was my favorite subject.
Writing came easy to me, and when I went to college, I continued to develop this talent by acquiring a Bachelor of Arts in modern literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz. After college, I studied a variety of subjects such as yoga and music. I worked as an assistant preschool teacher for a few years. During this time, I also helped with the after-school programs for the pre-k and kindergarteners. Reading a multitude of children’s books reestablished my love of literature.
Currently, my language interests focus on the mechanical aspects of copyediting. I obtained a specialized certificate from the University of California, San Diego Extensions Copyediting Certificate Program.
As an independent contractor, I was the lead editor for a picture book development and middle-grade fiction, a manuscript evaluator for middle-grade projects, and a copyeditor for fiction and nonfiction books.
For editing and tracking changes, I use Microsoft Word. I am seeking a position in which to develop my professional skills in copyediting. Long-term, I am interested in working remotely and part time for a children's literature publisher or literary agency.
